Travel Sometimes

My first holiday with my girlfriend Kristi was to her homeland of Estonia. But as I have become accustomed to, the holiday did not get off to a good start though. The flight we were originally supposed to fly out on was cancelled. We had been transferred to another flight, but because our tickets were for the old flight, and we only had an email for confirmation of the changed details, we decided to get to the airport early. Our plane was due to depart from Manchester at 19:30, so we planned to get there for 16:30. After a remarkably smooth drive up there and finding the parking without getting lost once, we were actually quite early.

We got to the airport at about 16:00, found the check in desk with no queue, and went to see if we could check our bags in a little early. “Sure thing”, they said. “But you are aware that the flight has been delayed?” We asked how long it was going to be, and was told it wouldn’t land until 22:00. Typical, as we were early for the original time.

So we checked our bags in, and then went to find something to entertain ourselves until departure. Luckily Kristi had her laptop with her, so we bought a few DVDs from one of the shops to watch. One thing they don’t like you to do in airports is to plug into power sockets. Where ever there was a power socket there would either be no where for you to sit, or it would be taped over. However we managed to find one they missed under an escalator. There were some seats and a little table. We got comfortable and watched Austin Powers Gold Member.

It was getting near 22:00 and our flight was still showing on the boards as delayed. So we decided to find out what the score was. This was when we found out the plane was now expected to arrive around midnight. Not good. We made our way to a Costa to get some drinks and a snack. Found a nice comfy leather sofa in the corner and watched our second DVD, ‘Team America’.

Well eventually we managed to fly out at 1:00 the next morning. By the time we landed at Tallinn we were so knackered we went straight to bed as soon as we got to Kristi’s mums. Not venturing out until lunch time.

The story continues: An Alarming Return
