Waking up to another beautiful morning in Dubrovnik, it was set to be a little more relaxed than the previous day touring Montenegro.
Heading back into the old town we planned to catch the few sights we missed on our first day, first of which was the Rector's Palace. Your typical museum, set in Gothic styled architecture, but nothing particularly outstanding.
Next up was the Cathedral followed by the Jesuit church. Unexpectedly I thought the Jesuit church was more impressive with its decor than the Cathedral which seemed rather more subdued than your typical Catholic decadence.
After a much needed drink and chance to judge passers-by from the shade of one of the street cafes, we headed out of the old town towards the Lapad peninsular, supposedly quite a nice area with lots of greenery and where many of the hotels reside.
After a lovely detour through a park we had to return to walking along the main road. It turned out to be quite far on foot and not particularly nice with the traffic passing by. A fellow tourist walking in the opposite direction narrowly avoided being hit by a bus, as it whizzed past inches from her. Having said that she was walking in the road with traffic coming from behind her, so she was asking for it. With the heat and humidity sapping our energy and upon reaching the Lapad peninsular finding the greenery didn't quite live up to our expectations, we decided to head back to the cool of our hotel.
Some cool air-conditioned hours later we had an early dinner at the hotel before heading back into town with the view of having another go at finding some of the renowned music the summer festival promised. The Rectors Palace was hosting traditional Croatian singing, but was charging too much to investigate further. In one of the squares we came across preparations for a concert, but after waiting for what seemed ages for it to start, we gave up and decided to call it a night.
We left Dubrovnik the following morning with fond memories of our time spent in this beautiful town.
